Nifty hits new all-time high, Sensex surges 500 points
Wednesday’s trading witnessed an impressive increase in domestic stocks, with the Nifty50 reaching a new all-time high. The huge rise was supported by rises in metal, IT, banking and metal stocks. The wider NSE Nifty index increased by 155 points to reach an all-time high of 23,420, while the 30-share BSE Sensex pack surged more than 500 points to reach a day high of 76,968. The growth of the domestic bourses was so great that the BSE’s market capitalization (m-cap) increased by almost Rs 2.8 lakh crore.
The top gainers among the 30 Sensex companies were Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Power Grid and HCL Technologies. Among the laggards were Titan, Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank and Hindustan Unilever.
The BSE benchmark fell 33.49 points, or 0.04 percent, to 76,456.59 on Tuesday, while the Nifty edged up 5.65 points, or 0.02 percent, to 23,264.85.
