Market opens on firm note; Nifty above 22,700, Sensex jumps over 400 points
On Thursday, trade in two major Indian equity indexes, the BSE Sensex and Nifty50, jumped upward. Nifty50 reached over 22,700, but the BSE Sensex was close to 74,800. The BSE Sensex was up 416 points, or 0.56%, at 74,798.72 at 9:16 AM. Nifty50 was up 117 points, or 0.52%, at 22,737.05.
At 9:20 AM, NTPC, SBI, Tech Mahindra, Power Grid, Wipro, HCL Tech and Tata Steel were the top gainers on the Sensex 30.
HUL, Nestle India, Sun Pharma, Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement, Titan and Bajaj Finance were the biggest losers on the Sensex 30.
Wednesday witnessed a significant increase in the Indian stock market as confidence increased when it was confirmed that the NDA will form the government for a third time in a row.
Positive signals were seen in Asian markets, with the Euro Stoxx 50 futures jumping 1.5%, Japan’s Topix rising 0.5%, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 gaining 0.6%, and the Hang Seng futures rising 0.5%. Technology companies were the primary cause of the US S&P 500 and Nasdaq indices reaching record closing highs.
